Summary

Congratulations! You have completed the course "Business Succession Planning: Developing and Maintaining a Succession Plan."

We started this course with a look at what succession planning is and what it can do for a business. We also learned how it is different from replacement hiring and the role that leadership plays in succession planning. Then, we learned about the SUCCESS model, which defines the process for succession planning.

The remainder of the course explored the SUCCESS model in more depth.

  • First, we looked at setting up the system for the succession plan.
  • The next step was identifying resources. This included developing individual engagement plans. Step three was creating risk assessments.
  • Step four was all about creating an action plan, which included gathering information, forecasting needs, and using appreciative inquiry to support our efforts.
  • In step five, we learned ways to evaluate the plan.
  • For our final sessions, we considered ways to set the plan in motion and sell it, which are the final two elements of the SUCCESS model.

You should now feel ready to help your organization create and maintain a succession plan.
