Technology
Technology can be discussed in both online and high-tech approaches to succession planning.
Possible Answers:
- Online methods rely on the Internet, intranet, or extranet. Examples include the use of e-mail, web-based data collection, or transmission applications as possible ways to organize, share, and distribute the elements of a plan among stakeholders around the world.
- Questionnaires (completed online or printed off and completed in pen) and straightforward web-based documents can help users compile a profile and could include an IEP.
- Highly technical methods may or may not use some element of the web, and can include applications such as database collection and storage and video conferencing (interactive or static). Online help, policies, procedures, forms, or assessments can all fall into this category.
The best methods to suit your organization will depend on your needs, budget, location of operations, and the technical savvy of participants. There are several software packages available that provide talent and succession management services. (These are not listed here as we are not endorsing a particular product; however, a little additional research will lead you to them quite easily.)
