Supervisors (Employers)
Supervisors are responsible to take every reasonable precaution to protect workers.
To fulfill this obligation, supervisors need to:
- Provide a safe and healthy workplace for workers and contractors including safe plant, work conditions, work pace, injury prevention equipment, facilities and use, handling, storage and transport of dangerous goods and other harmful materials.
- Be familiar with the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and regulations in their jurisdiction
- Be knowledgeable about potential, or actual, health and safety hazards in the workplace and is able to determine the type of protective equipment needed
- Understand the organization’s health and safety policies and procedures, as they apply to them and those who work with, and for, them
- Ensure workers have adequate information, instruction, training, and supervision to work in a safe and healthy manner.
- Ensure that workers follow workplace procedures and use protective equipment required by the organization or outside regulations.
- Provide information, instruction, and supervision to a worker to protect the health or safety of the worker.
- Adequately monitor workers' health.
- Report all accidents or injuries that occur to their employees while at work.
- Keep information and records relevant to workers' health and safety.
- Take steps necessary to eliminate (or control) hazards in the workplace.
- Consult with employees on matters that may directly affect their health, safety or welfare.
